Major Change in the 2010 Maui Paradise Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K events: Because of the continuing global economic downturn and health scares, the 2010 MPM events are being suspended. While we have taken this action reluctantly, it is only prudent to postpone for 2010 and focus our efforts on making 2011 a premier destination event. Here is what is being planned for the future:
The 2011 event will be held a week later on Sunday, January 16. This will avoid the conflict with the SBS PGA Championship golf tournament being held on the same weekend. It should be noted that the LPGA tournament scheduled for October also is suspending for this year so we are not alone.
All entry fees will be refunded via your credit card that was used for payment. For those who mailed in a check the refund will be via a check. For the 2009 5K rollovers, just for those who registered prior to this announcement, we will be refunding $5 via check. Checks will be sent to the address on your entry form. All refunds should be accomplished by August 20, 2009.
We are working with MapMyRun to do a virtual run for 2010. This will prove to be an exciting venture given the success with similar virtual events they have done. More information will be forth coming in the next couple of weeks. Keep checking the website and we also will be emailing the data when available.
The Marriott has agreed to keep the special event rates available through at least October 9, 2009, for those who still want to come to Maui during the event dates. We are also talking with other facilities, such as golf courses, and vendors, such as whale watching tours, for special rates and will post them once they are confirmed. While on Maui you will be able to run the course(s), unofficially, as part of our planned virtual run. As new information becomes available it will be posted to the website as well as through email newsletters.
We recognize the inconvenience this change might be causing people and ask for your kokua (cooperation) during these unique times. While we can't hold a live event as such in 2010 we plan to do a lot of other things to keep Maui in your thoughts. We will be offering special merchandise through our on line store and have other items being planned that will remind you that Maui No Ka 'Oi (Maui is the best.)
